♥♥Crayon Rocks ♥♥

index_logoI’ve been looking for things that my children could really appreciate for the Valentine’s Day holiday! When I really sat and thought about what it is that Benjamin and Raeya really enjoy doing, and doing together that is coloring. Benjamin more so then Raeya, Raeya just likes taking the crayons out, and looking at them one by one. I was really excited to stumble upon this wonderful product and get the chance to speak to the developer Barbara Lee, a special needs teacher who worked with elementary aged children for 23 years. She was so kind with me, and sent me not only one, but two sacks of her Valentine’s Day Crayon Rocks! Each sack has 20 colored rocks in them, beautifully colored I might add.

Seriously, how cute are these!? Presentation certainly gets a 10/10 for me, but how did my children review them? Well let’s just take a look into their reviewing session with them!

Lets talk little bit about what exactly a Crayon Rock is, since it’s apparent that my children are HUGE fans!

How was the Crayon Rock invented?

Barbara learned how important it was for children to develop a strong tripod grip early in their education process — handwriting skills depend upon this.

So, How Do Crayon Rocks Help?

It helps teach a positive grip technique on the writing utensil. Crayons are almost without a doubt the first thing a child learns to write with. By creating a thicker, tripod shaped crayon it allows the child to grip appropriately and without hassle of breaking the crayon.

“Children with cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delays and various forms of learning disabilities have tested Crayon Rocks in the classroom. Parents and teachers of special needs students often tell me how much their children love them”

What are Crayon Rocks Made Of, Are They Safe?

Crayon Rocks are made from US grown and processed Kosher soy wax. We combine this wax with natural mineral pigments to create beautiful colors and a natural ground rock that gives the crayons their body. Though they have a thicker body then an average crayon, I still recommend supervision with the little ones while using them.

I see Crayon Rocks being a huge staple in our house among my children. Raeya had fun “sorting them out” by who knows what, and playing with them. Benjamin was just so fascinated by the design of them. As Raeya learns to really color, and draw I will continue to see if these have a positive effect on her ability to hold a writing utensil.
