Wet Shave Club (Photo Heavy)

Do you or someone or someone you know have the need for shaving frequently? When I came across the Wet Shave Club monthly subscription box I thought of my husband. His facial hair grows at an extremely fast rate and feels like shaving is more like a hassle then something he’d actually spend his time doing. I was hoping that the Wet Shave Club would make the process more enjoyable for him.

This is what our box looked liked when it arrived, and the contents that came in the box.

We received  a razor, with 10 self attaching blades, a lather puck, a lather brush and some aftershave. The razor also came with a blade cover to help protect your blade and razor when not in use.

Below you’ll find a picture of my husbands face prior to shaving.

Adam wasn’t thrilled about the idea of shaving until I reminded him that we had this shave box to review. It cheered him up a little bit, until he actually started the process of shaving. When I say process I mean LONG process, there were so many steps he had to do before he could even start shaving.

The first thing he had to do was assemble the actual blade onto the razor. Which to me isn’t a horrible thing, you’d just need to replace the blades vs the actual razor each month. The blades seemed super flimsy, and paper-thin. He was afraid he was going to break them while putting the blade on to the razor head.

The next step consisted of two things. The first thing was to wet your lather brush bristles so that they were soft and bendable. After that you put the lather puck into a mug and run the lather brush over the puck until you get your desired lather consistency. So Adam did as the instructions instructed him to do.

He then applied the lather to his face and begin shaving.

Let just say he wasn’t a fan at all. There were so many things he didn’t enjoy about this process. He said there were way to many steps, and shaving should be kept simple. He didn’t understand why he needed the brush, and lather puck, it was just a few more things that made the already dreaded act longer. When he actually began shaving he said that it felt like the razor was pulling his hair out rather than cutting it. He didn’t know if it was the blade quality, or if he wasn’t getting the right angle on the blade. He even wondered if the lather was a contributing factor.

He felt this box would benefit people who are into the art of shaving. He unfortunately finished out his face with regular old shaving cream and a disposable razor. He said it was quicker and didn’t feel as though his facial hair was getting ripped out. He did however try shaving with the razor with the shaving cream and he said that it felt better than using the lather puck but not as good as his regular razor.

You can head on over to Wet Shave Club and chose your subscription box option. One month costs $29 and comes with all the above mentioned items and one surprise gift. If you choose to receive the box longer then 1 month you will receive a discount making your monthly cost of a box lower. I also wouldn’t totally rule this box out for everyone just because my husband didn’t like it. There are some people who really see shaving as an art, and enjoy doing it. I think this would be a great gift for your husband, or father on Father’s Day. What better gift then getting all your shaving needs shipped right to you door step!

If you don’t want to purchase a subscription box you can go to their website and purchase some of the items separately, or in another gift basket/box option. Check out their Shoppe here!

  1. Hi there,

While reading this review and being someone who is into the art of shaving I noticed a few things that your husband can do to better his experience with this sometimes painful and time consuming process. First off, when using a safety razor vs the newer disposable razors, you really need to take down your beard as much as possible before attempting to put a razor on it. I will usually use an electric trimmer, or clippers of some sort. That is the reason why he felt as if the razor was ripping the hair out (it pretty much was). Also, safety razors don’t have that band of gooey assistance so having a very good lather is imperative to getting the slick gliding feel of the razor.

And last but not least, the shave puck is actually made from all natural ingredients, which is probably why it didn’t quite work as well as does not feel as good as all the artificial products out there, but that’s sometimes the trade-off of using all natural things. I’m sorry your husband did not enjoy the box but we appreciate and thank you for your honest review of the products. Take care!
